One of my goals for this year is to compete in a pole dancing competition. I started pole dancing several years ago for a short period of time, and loved it. As an ex-gymnast and ex-ballet dancer, it appealed to my love of acrobatics and reminded me of how much I loved doing tricks. I had to stop gymnastics in my teens because of my hypermobility causing knee problems, so pole dancing seemed like an excellent alternative: all the acrobatics, none of the shock absorption on my knees. But running a business and life got in the way and I stopped going.

So this year I plan to not only get back in to it, but actually compete in a competition of some sort. It’s the best way to make sure I actually follow through – giving myself some hard stop deadline.

In keeping with that, I’ve signed up for a pole dance bootcamp that starts next week. It’ll be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7am-8am for four weeks. As someone who doesn’t love waking up really early, this is going to be a real shock-therapy style of kickstarting my goals. Here’s hoping I don’t sleep in.
